Following the success of the previous edition, Civil Words' advanced acting course "THE INTEGRATED ACTOR" returns to ELF Teatro, led by director Nick Rapp. This training program pushes the art of acting beyond the confines of technique, into the realm of impulse.

What awaits you?
A year-long journey (39 weeks in total), divided into three phases, with director Nick Rapp (UCLA, 12 years of experience in various cities, such as Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, Montana).

Previous experience (academic or professional) is recommended for this course. All interested parties should apply by sending their CV. However, if you have no experience but are still interested in the course, you can still contact us to discuss your acting goals and, based on that, we will provide you with a sample script to prepare in the form of an audition.

The Integrated Actor combines disciplined text analysis with rigorous physical and vocal training, creating an environment where experienced actors can push creative boundaries and step outside their heads. As always, the course will begin with body and movement work, followed by scenes from the nominated playwright of the year (Tennessee Williams). The course encourages a deep, personal exploration of characters and texts, ensuring that each performance is a unique, living work of art.

In this course you will learn to:
  • Perform and apply text analysis
  • Master the art of acting through action, based on Stanlislavski's structure of events, objectives and tactics.
  • Connect text and body
  • Transforming mental constructs into instinctive responses. This method blends classical text work (Williams) with Grotowski-inspired physical exploration, allowing your instrument (body-voice) to respond instinctively to every impulse.

Ultimately, you'll approach Williams with a "heretical curiosity," ensuring that the text doesn't limit your artistic freedom. You'll learn how a dynamic actor creates a performance, rather than letting the text dictate the outcome.

  • Practice the English language
  • Having a native English teacher who also speaks and understands Italian is a rare opportunity in Milan. Very few courses offer this type of teaching and approach. That's why L'Attore Integrato stands out, thanks to the experience and expertise of professionals like director Nick Rapp.
Each lesson will include vocal and physical exercises to ensure your instrument is warmed up and ready for this type of work. Each session will follow this structure:
• Warm-up: physical and vocal exercises to activate your “instrument”
• Core exploration: scene work with partners, focusing on subtexts, impulses and bold reinterpretations
• Reflection and guidance: Group feedback, coaching and adjustments to refine your skills
At the end of the course, a guest from the industry (casting director, talent agent, film or theater director) will be invited to participate in a presentation of the students' work.
The final month will be dedicated to filming the scenes prepared during the year, to test your work in front of the camera. This will be done in collaboration with director and videographer Luca Rubertà. Participants will receive the footage to use in their showreels.

Final Objective
This is not just an “acting course”, but:
    • Vocal training, using exercises from the Linklater system
    • Physical training, using exercises from the Grotowski method and Viewpoints
    • Training in working on the text, learning to act and apply script analysis
    • A space for experimentation and exploration, where physical and vocal training can be applied to go beyond the limits of the Stanislavskian model
    • An opportunity to engage with the feedback of a respected professional in the sector
    • Practice the English language in a professional acting context
    • Get video material for your showreel
Last year's participants were thrilled with the results of the course. If you'd like to revitalize your performances, sign up!
